So here it is, fresh from the studio - and already hanging there for my upcoming Open Studio Tour this Sunday, June 26th. It took over two months - of extremely interrupted time. That full time job can really put a crimp in my play time.
Dimensions 24" X 28"
There is primarily cotton batiks, but also some silk and cotton with different color warp and weft.
Along with the usual buttons and beads, I added lace and sequins.
I also did some free-motion quilting on separate pieces and then hand appliqued them to the quilt top.
I added beads and hand stitched flower parts just for added interest.
Along with a piece of vintage lace I had, I punched out some paper that I had painted for another project and stitched through it as an embellishment.
I had some bead gravy and added it the ACTS block and some heated, hammered copper wire and shells.
This was another experiment where I strip pieced some fabric, cut petals, painted the edges and added beads to the center. Random but, I like it.
The border just had to be random - it set off the theme of the quilt.
All in all, it is a busy piece which is not my usual style. I think that seeing it in person makes you stop and really look to take it all in, which was the point. It incorporates a variety of media, techniques and fabrics and will hang in my studio for the tour and perhaps a long while longer. It reminds me of all the different things I have learned in the five years that I have been art quilting.
If you aren't doing anything on Wednesday from 3 - 5 Eastern Standard Time, feel free to log into Creative Mojo and perhaps even call in for my co-hosting with Mark Lipinski. Hope to hear from you there.
